Anna House Graduation 2017

Yesterday was an exciting day at Anna House! Everyone gathered to watch our Anna House Class of 2017 graduate. Many of these students have been attending Anna House since they were infants, so it was an emotional day for all to watch them get ready to head off to the "big school". We're so proud of all our graduates and look forward to seeing all they accomplish in the years to come!

Congratulations to the Class of 2017!

BCCA would also like to thank the Floral Park Memorial High School National Honor Society for their amazing donation. Each of our graduates will be heading to their next school fully prepared with a backpack filled with all the necessary supplies!

Happy Mother's Day!

It was an incredibly moving Mother's Day at Anna House! Our students put on a concert for their mothers where they sang songs, read poems, and told everyone why they love their mother so much! They then presented them with pictures and flowers they had grown themselves.

Earth Day at Anna House!

This weekend all our students celebrated Earth Day with a fun and educational project. First, they each decorated their own recycled container. The younger children used stickers, which helped develop their fine motor skills. They were then provided with soil and seeds to plant in their containers. This project showed our children how fun recycling and caring for our planet can be!

Easter at Anna House!

This year we celebrated Easter a little early at Anna House! We are so thankful to all our supporters and Community Partners. We would especially like to thank the National Charity League-Garden City Chapter for putting together these amazing Easter baskets for each of our children and teachers!

Brotherhood Awards

We are proud to announce that one of our students, Chelsea, in our after-school tutoring program recently received the Brotherhood Award! From amongst all her peers, Chelsea was chosen by both her principle and her teachers to receive this award. This award is presented to someone that not only strives to excel in school, but also shows the importance of being kind to others and helping out in the community. These are characteristics that BCCA finds truly important and inspiring and we are so proud when one of our students exhibits them so well.

Brownie Egg Hunt

This week we were fortunate to have some amazing visitors at Anna House. Local Brownie troop 1483 organized a surprise egg hunt for our school age students! After the exciting hunt, all the children participated in an arts and crafts project. It is so important to us that our children connect with members of the local community and understand the importance of giving back. Seeing these young girls come and do something so generous for us was truly inspiring!

Women's Literacy Program

BCCA is so proud of our Anna House mothers for completing the first Women's Literacy session! The mothers were able to expand their English vocabulary while also gaining confidence in communicating with others in their everyday life. When the mothers were asked what they enjoyed most about the class, here were a few of the responses:

"My children now enjoy reading with me and sharing stories about what they do in school."

"I enjoy learning English and spending more time reading with my children and with my teachers and my classmates."

"I used to be afraid to answer the telephone in English, but now I have more confidence to communicate with others and my children have noticed this new change in me."

We are so grateful to the New York Women's Foundation for helping make this amazing program possible!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

BCCA would like to thank the Hagan-Kavanagh Irish School of Dance for joining us at Anna House today. Our students spent the morning creating their own St. Patrick's Day hats and then got to finish off their day with an amazing dance performance! Wishing you St. Patrick's Day luck on finding your own Pot of Gold from all of us at Anna House.
