JOI GARNER, BOARD MEMBER

Joi Garner is the Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary for the New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA).  She brings over twenty years of experience in sports and entertainment, a wealth of knowledge in strategic contract negotiations, content creation, event production and management, and an unparalleled work ethic to Belmont Child Care Association.

A Philadelphia native, Garner began her career at Violator Records and Management while simultaneously attending New York University. After graduating with a degree in communications, Garner began working at MediaLink Worldwide, a broadcast public relations firm, and later pursued her interests in basketball and media as an international PR associate with the NBA. Garner received her JD from the University of California Hastings College of Law. As a corporate attorney, she worked at Morrison & Foerster LLP and joined the Entertainment and Sports Group of Garvey Shubert Barer. Garner was named to the Super Lawyers list of Rising Stars and received the National Black Lawyer’s distinction of Top 40 under 40.

When Garner is not creating or executing strategic plans to further advance the work of NYRA and its subsidiaries, she seeks to expand diversity in the sports, entertainment, legal and executive management pipelines. She enjoys arts and culture in New York City, traveling and spending time with friends, family, and her labradoodle named Carrie.
